Community Events

April 2012

Thank you to everyone who submitted application to us. We have gone through the applications and have narrowed it down to our Top 2 Schools and our Top 2 Non-Profit Organizations. Now it is your turn, Southwest Saskatchewan, to help us pick a winner. Vote for your favorite School or Organization from April 9th to the 23rd. We will team up with the winning school and organization for our Drive One events this year.

Meet our Top 2 Community Organizations:

SPCA Swift Current - Winner

The Swift Current SPCA has been serving the area since 1973. They serve the community by housing strays, unwanted litters of cats & dogs and surrendered pets. In 2009 they became a low kill shelter, meaning they do not euthenize for space. They receive no federal funding and operate mainly from donations made by the community

If the SPCA wins the vote the money they recieve from the event will go towards desperately needed repairs and renovations to their current location, being a low kill shelter has put a strain on their facilities.

Swift Current Indians Ball Club/Minor Ball

Swift Current minor baseball operates a minor baseball league for ages 6-18. They had approx. 220 players last year and expect the same amount or more this year.

If the minor baseball club and the Swift Current Indians win the vote the money they recieve from the event will go towards a shed they are wanting to build to store all the equipment that is needed to support the number of players they have. The shed would also contain an umpire change room for the Indians to use during home games.

Meet our Top 2 Schools:

Swift Current Comprehensive High School Chamber Singers Choir

The SCCHS Chamber Singers Choir have been chosen to represent the province of Saskatchewan in Ottawa during the July 1st Canada Day celebrations. One choir has been chosen from each province. The 30 students in the choir have been working hard to prepare for this trip - both musically and in their fundraising efforts. The Choir has a fantastic reputation for their musical talent and have won many rewards.

If the choir wins the vote the money they receive from the event will be split among the 30 students to help offset the cost of the trip to Ottawa.

Maple Creek Composite School - Winner

Maple Creek Composite School is wanting to share with the community the amazing things their students have done, and to keep the community informed of upcoming events. It is the goal of the Student Representative Council to help build school pride, and being part of something "Big" would help do that.

If Maple Creek Composite wins the vote they will use the money they recieve from the event to purchase an electronic message board which will be placed in the front of the school in order to share with the community the events going on at the school.

Come back Monday morning to start casting your votes. One vote per person per day.We will also have a ballot in the April 12th issue of both the Southwest Booster & the Prairie Post that you can fill out and drop off or mail to us at:
